WHAT AWAITS YOU IN HLUHLUWE IMFOLOZI?

Hluhluwe-Imfolozi’s claim to fame is pretty epic. It’s the reserve that brought the Southern White Rhino back from the brink of extinction. Numbering less than 20 in 1900, there are now more than 1,600 white rhino in the park and more than 350 black rhino.

The reserve is regarded as one of the oldest on the planet, second only to Yellowstone National Park and rivals Kruger National Park in its beauty. As KwaZulu Natal’s flagship reserve, Hluhluwe-Imfolozi boasts regular sightings of lions, elephants, rhinos (black and white), giraffes, buffaloes and African wild dogs. Not a bad place for birding either.

A visit to the Hluhluwe-Umfolozi also offers a unique insight into the cultural history of the region, which was once home to the Zulu people. Their Stone Age settlements still scatter the landscape of this fascinating safari destination.
