WHAT AWAITS YOU ON THE WILD COAST?

Welcome to the untamed wilderness that is the Wild Coast in the Eastern Cape. The area extends between the Mtamvuna River in the north and the Great Kei River to the south.

The Wild Coast is an incredible, unassuming combination of breath-taking coastline, precipitous and craggy cliff faces, wild and desolate beaches, secluded bays and green rolling hills that rush headlong into deeply etched river valleys. The Wild Coast is truly one of South Africa hidden Gems. Mostly untouched and unspoiled.

The area offers grassland landscapes, forests, estuaries, rivers and rocky coastline. About half the coastline comprises of indigenous forest. Small sandy bays and long stretches of open beaches are often found near the mouths of large rivers. Many impressive rivers that rise in the Drakensberg empty into the sea along the Wild Coast.

GEOLOGY AND WILDLIFE

The Wild Coast can be considered rugged terrain. While most of the animal species which abounded in the Transkei 100 years ago have all but disappeared in the wild, birds are prolific. Over 250 species can be seen. It is also a butterfly lovers dream come true with a number of species are endemic to the area.

WHAT'S THE WEATHER LIKE?

Rainfall along the Wild Coast is high; approximately 1000mm falls here annually, predominantly in Spring and Autumn. The winter months runs from May to September [low season] while the summer runs from October to April [high season]. The summer averages 25C [75.2F] while winter temperatures average 20C [59F]
