WHAT AWAITS YOU IN MADIKWE?

The geological formations at Madikwe, tempered by millions of years of erosion, have produced the complex foundation of soils and rocks on which the diverse vegetation of Madikwe grows. The reserve comprises 75 000 hectare of pristine, malaria-free African bush located in the North West Province, on the western side of the Marico River.

A true African Eden offering the discerning safari lover access to the big five, including black rhino along other rare species such African Wild Dog and Cheetah as part of its 120 resident mammal species and 350 recorded species of birds.

The major veld types in the park include: mixed bushveld, Kalahari bushveld, arid sweet bushveld and other turf thornveld. Amongst the 120 mammal species resident here are the infamous Big 5. Add to that giraffe, hippo, cheetah, wild dog and hyena and you have the Madikwe 10!

Madikwe forms part of a semi-arid region on the edge of the Kalahari desert. In this region the climate can be broken into the rainy season (October – April) and the dry season (May – September). The annual rainfall is 488 mm dry season in the winter months (April to September), and wet season in the summer months (October to March).The summer averages 30C [86F] while winter temperatures average 24C [75F]
