After arriving in Johannesburg and getting a feel for the country you will be heading directly into a 240,000 acre wilderness to immersive yourself in wildlife conservation. Spend 4 nights at Working with Wildlife in the remote Kalahari engaging on predator research, anti-poaching, assisting with veterinary work, wildlife relocation and elephant collaring.

Life is all about balance so a bit of time in The Mothercity is in order. Explore the rugged Peninsula of the Cape and the biodiversity of Table Mountain but not forgetting the eclectic foodie culture and rich history of Cape Town. Expert guides will introduce you to this remarkable city.

It should be illegal to visit South Africa and not explore the stunning beaches of Maputaland. And we’re all about living by the law. So naturally the finale to your travel will take you to where the leatherback and loggerhead turtles lay their eggs and where the Southern Right Whales come to frolic. Spend 3 nights along the Indian Ocean of Maputaland which kisses the south of Mozambique.

FULL ITINERARY

DAYS 01 & 02 — JOHANNESBURG / CITY

 

Upon arrival in Johannesburg, you will be met by your local driver and transferred to the quaint and interesting Satyagraha House (Mohandas Gandhi’s Home in Johannesburg) which is serve as a peaceful oasis for you to settle into your visit to South Africa.

Spend your afternoon connecting the city’s vibrant culture and jazz scene. Bright and early on your first full day in South Africa venture into the historic and energetic township of Soweto before visiting the Apartheid Museum.

DAYS 03 TO 06 — WORKING WITH WILDLIFE / SAFARI

 

Let the conservation begin. Head into South Africa’s Kalahari Desert and into a 240,000 acre Big 5 reserve where you will have the privilege of gaining a true perspective of the problems facing African Wildlife and participate in the efforts of preserving and conserving wildlife and Africa’s biodiversity.

Activities can include: Predator research, camera traps, game counts, vegetation surveys, anti-poaching, veterinary work, lion relocation, African wild dogs relocation, and elephant collaring.

DAYS 07 TO 10 — CAPE TOWN / CITY

 

After all that wilderness you must be craving some city life. That’s why we have you staying in Cape Town’s most vibey spot — the V&A Waterfront! Spend the next 4 days exploring the art, food and culture scenes of the city.

We’ve included some handpicked experiences to help you unlock Cape Town including an immersive Peninsula tour including a visit to the SANCCOB seabird conservation project. Connect with the city’s culture and history as you indulge in a foodie tour of Cape Town. And well, we can leave out the winelands …

DAYS 11 TO 13 — MAPUTALAND / OCEAN

 

Your final stop on your South African adventure is along the warm Indian Ocean beaches of Maputaland. Spend 3 nights at the Big Skies sustainable, community-based beach house where you can indulge in snorkelling, turtle safaris (in-season), whale watching (in-season), explorations of the river systems and while learning how the communities live off the land.

DAY 14 — DURBAN AIRPORT / FLIGHT

 

It’s your final day in the Zulu Kingdom, why not hit the beach for a spot of snorkelling or an early morning swim. After breakfast, your driver will transfer you back to King Shaka International Airport in Durban from where you can continue on your onward travels.
